Teeth Whitening

Professional teeth whitening in Essex

The friendly team at Devonshire House Dental Practice are specialists in teeth whitening using Philips’ Zoom WhiteSpeed technology.

Used around the world by more than 14 million people, it is the fastest and safest way to effectively whiten teeth and eliminate deep stains.

In just one hour, we can whiten your teeth by up to six shades. There’s no wonder it’s the UK’s most popular professional whitening system.

We can also prescribe an at-home whitening kit for our Essex patients, enabling them to maintain their brilliant white smiles for longer.

What causes our teeth to discolour?

There are many reasons why our teeth can change colour over time. Most commonly it’s caused by drinking coffee, tea and red wine, as well as eating highly acidic foods.

However, smoking, poor oral hygiene and even the ageing process can also cause the outer layer of our teeth to become discoloured or turn yellow. Some medications can affect the inner part of the tooth, affecting the external colour.

Tooth whitening treatment bleaches the outer layer or enamel of your teeth, restoring their whiteness as well as your confidence to smile without damaging your tooth structure!

How does the teeth whitening treatment work?

Before the treatments begin, our dental technician will ensure your teeth and gums are in good condition. We will then take impressions of your upper and lower teeth to create whitening trays that are unique to you.

During the treatment, your lips and gums are protected from the whitening gel during the procedure. A pH booster swab is then applied to your teeth, followed by our unique Zoom gel formula.

This EU-compliant whitening agent is then activated using the WhiteSpeed lamp, which uses proprietary LED light to accelerate teeth whitening and break down surface stains on the enamel.

The WhiteSpeed lamp can be adjusted depending on the degree of whitening required. Most patients start to see visible results in their teeth from our professional whitening treatments after just four 15-minute sessions with our dentist.

Essex teeth whitening aftercare

The care doesn’t end when the teeth whitening lamp is turned off.

Following the professional teeth whitening, our dentist will provide you with Opalescence tooth whitening gel (either 10% or 15% concentration) as part of a take-home kit to continue your tooth whitening at home.

You’ll be advised to avoid food or drinks that could stain your teeth, so you can keep your bright new smile for longer.

Home teeth whitening kits

We’re a friendly team but we also appreciate not everyone likes coming to the dentist. That’s why we also offer a home version of our professional teeth whitening system.

Clinical studies have shown that bleaching your teeth with Philips’ DayWhite and NiteWhite teeth whitening systems under the supervision of a dental professional is completely safe for your teeth and gums.

Before using a home teeth whitening kit, our dental professional will help you decide which treatment and potency is right for you based on your lifestyle, goals and sensitivity levels.

Both DayWhite and NiteWhite use EU compliant gels with teeth trays that offer full coverage of your teeth for guaranteed results.

How long does the treatment take?

That depends which deep bleaching treatment you choose. Zoom professional teeth whitening treatments can provide noticeable results and whiter teeth after just one session.

When used as instructed, the DayWhite and NiteWhite home whitening kits (which contain hydrogen peroxide and amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP), respectively) can achieve the same great result in up to two weeks, depending on the concentration of teeth whitening gels and wear time you select.

What are the treatment side effects?

The most common side effect of teeth whitening is tooth and gum sensitivity.

Your dentist will determine whether you are a good candidate for teeth whitening and that you are using the right concentration of whitening formula.

The Zoom WhiteSpeed system contains two mild desensitising agents, potassium nitrate and ACP, to help minimise tooth sensitivity after teeth whitening.

How long do the teeth whitening results last?

No matter which system you choose to have your own teeth whitened, if you don’t look after it, your new smile won’t be permanent.

A teeth whitening treatment can give you back a bright, white smile, but if you go back to drinking lots of coffee or red wine, those stains can reappear.

Luckily, the ACP used in the Zoom WhiteSpeed system can also slow down discolouration. For optimal results and to have a dazzling smile that lasts: keep up your oral health!
